Chrome automatically downloads the file and forces the user to save it somewhere which then "unlinks" the document from the SharePoint library. The user has to make the changes and upload the file over the old file to get it updated in SharePoint. IE will download the file but with the yellow warning and "Edit Workbook" button. Chrome forces me to save a file on my pc instead of just opening it (either in the browser or separately) I've looked for solutions and nothing seems to equate to what I'm experiencing. Its not bltadwin.ru, or jpgs, its many file types. I just don't like have to pick a save location because then I have a file to delete if I just wanted to view it.

After downloading, you'll click the up arrow / caret (^) next to the download on the status bar, and choose "Always open files of this type". This will cause Chrome to pass the download over to the associated application. You have to download the file type once, then right after that download, look at the status bar at the bottom of the browser. Click the arrow next to that file and choose "always open files of this type". DONE. Now the file type will always OPEN using your default program.
